New Jobs Figures

Sacramento, CA — New unemployment statistics were released this afternoon.

For the month of February, Tuolumne County had a rate of 15 percent and Calaveras County was at 16.8 percent.

"I hope we have reached the bottom," said Chamber of Commerce President and CEO George Segarini at the Ribbon cutting ceremony at Tractor Supply Company on Friday. "I think things are only going to get better as summer approaches, and we have projects on the drawing board that are going to start production soon."

California’s unemployment rate was 12.5 percent. The sector specializing in trade, transportation and utilities saw a considerable increase in jobs, while construction, hospitality, manufacturing and government saw declines.

The numbers were compiled by the California Employment Development Department.
