Drive Safely This Weekend
Sonora, CA – With activities taking place across the region the roads will be busy this weekend.
Traffic is expected to be heavy along Hwy 108 and Hwy 4 with the opening of Sonora and Ebbetts Pass.
Along Hwy 120, many will be traveling to and from Yosemite, as well as Camp Mather for the Strawberry Music Festival. This year’s festival has drawn performers like Lyle Lovett and Patty Loveless.
Heavy traffic has been reported along Hwy 49 near Angels Camp partially due to the Furthur Festival taking place at the Calaveras County Fairgrounds. The event is a tribute to the Grateful Dead and band members Bob Weir and Phil Lesh are two of the acts performing this weekend.
Many are also heading towards the Sierra to camp or take part in other outdoor activities.
CHP Officer Mike Remmel is encouraging everyone to drive safely. All available officers are on the road as part of a Maximum Enforcement Period that runs through Monday. Officers are looking for D.U.I. drivers, speeders and seat belt violators.
