Turning Down The Music

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Tuolumne County is looking to crack down on loud music that comes from boats.

The Supervisors have passed the first reading of an ordinance that outlaws music that can be heard 100 feet from the boat while recreating in a reservoir. Recently there have been complaints about boaters cranking up stereos while pulling water skiers and wake boarders.

“The music is for those people in tow, and my research shows that tow lines are anywhere from 50-60 ft.,” said Sheriff Jim Mele at the Supervisors meeting. “We’re giving them 100 ft. where they can hear the music.”

“Some of the music that is being played at this time is very offensive,” added Mele.

A final vote on the proposed ordinance will come at a later date. Calaveras County is looking at passing similar legislation.
