Former Sonora Football Players Plead Not Guilty
Sonora, CA — Two former Sonora High school football players are pleading not guilty to separate alleged offenses committed in October.
18-year-old Nate Gray has pleaded not guilty to battery and other misdemeanors related to a bar fight on October 10th reported at Diamond Jim’s in Mi Wuk Village. Gray will have a preliminary hearing on January 7th in Tuolumne County Superior Court.
18-year-old Austin Thoburn has pleaded not guilty to DUI related charges stemming from a rollover accident on October 18th on Racetrack Road in Jamestown. An unidentified juvenile sustained major injuries in the crash, according to the CHP report. Thoburn will have a preliminary hearing on December 1st.
Sources confirm that Gray and Thoburn were given 90 day suspensions from athletics and are no longer with the football team. An unidentified juvenile was also involved in the October 10th bar fight. He was given a 14 day suspension from athletics and is back playing with the Sonora High football team. His name has not been released by authorities because he was under the age of 18 at the time of the incident.
