Stimulus Money Allocated To Mother Lode

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Caltrans has allocated $2.3 million to Tuolumne County and $1.3 for Calaveras County from the latest wave of federal stimulus money.

Calaveras Council of Governments Executive Director Tim McSorley says he is excited to receive the funding, but was hoping for more.

"The money was about half of what we were expecting, quite frankly," says McSorley.  "That has to do with a distribution formula under a new law the Governor just signed last Friday."

He says most of the money will go towards road repairs and restoration.

Projects will be selected based on their "shovel ready" status, job creation and benefits to the state’s transportation system.

A total of $1.6 billion was allocated today by Caltrans.
