Memorial To Be Built Outside Sonora VA Clinic
Sonora, CA — The Vietnam Veterans of America Post 391 is raising money for a memorial that will be outside of the new VA Medical Clinic being constructed on Mono Way near the Junction Shopping Center.
“This Memorial will basically honor all six branches of the service,” says coordinator Frank Smart. “It won’t honor any particular war, or any particular generation, just all Veterans.”
The Memorial will consist of a flagpole surrounded by six granite slabs, one for each of the services. The slabs will feature text written by a local member. Leading up to the Memorial will be a walkway of bricks and pavers engraved with the names of Veterans.
The fundraiser consists of residents donating money for the bricks (4×8 inches) or pavers (8×8 inches). The donors can decide which Veteran or Veterans names will be featured on their brick. Applications are available through www.vietnamveterans391.org.
