Amador County Gaming Pioneer Dies
Jackson, CA — 69 year old Margaret Dalton, leader of the Jackson Rancheria Band of Miwuk Indians for 30 years, died in her sleep Sunday.
She was the driving force behind the establishment of the Jackson Rancheria.
Born in Tuolumne, Dalton moved to Calaveras County. She forsake school at the age of 16, married Earl Dalton and moved to the Rancheria.
Today the Rancheria ranks as the top employer in Amador County with approximately 1,700 employees.
A memorial service is planned for 1pm Saturday. The casino, hotel and all restaurants will be closed from 4am to 7pm Saturday in observance of Margaret Dalton’s passing. The Raging River Restaurant will not reopen until 6am Sunday.
