Update: Fire In Calaveritas Area
Update at 3:40 p.m.: CAL Fire reports that the lightning strike “1-2 Fire” is contained to 9.3 acres in the Old Gulch area of Calaveras County. Crews will remain on the scene mopping up for the next hour.
Update at 2:20 p.m.: CAL Fire spokesperson Emily Kilgore tells Clarke Broadcasting that the 1-2 Fire’s forward rate of spread has been stopped at five acres. The flames broke out in some grass in the vicinity of Calaveritas and Dogtown roads in the Calaveritas Reservoir area. Kilgore relays that the cause is under investigation and crews will remain on scene mopping up and working towards full containment for the next couple of hours.
There have been several vegetation fires this morning due to stormy weather that is moving through the Mother Lode, as reported here.
