Public Meeting Set For Big Meadow Fire
El Portal, CA — A public meeting regarding the Big Meadow Fire in Yosemite is scheduled for this evening at 6:30 at the El Portal School.
Today marks Day Six of the Big Meadow Fire. Acreage burned stood at 4,382 as of the last report issued Sunday morning at 9:30. The fire is listed as 50 percent contained.
Two minor injuries have been reported to date. No structures have been destroyed but 50 residences, one commercial and 25 outbuildings are threatened.
Sunday resources included 24 hand crews, 94 engines, 12 water tenders, eight dozers, 11 helicopters and a half-a-dozen air tankers. 906 personnel have been assigned to this fire.
100 percent containment has been scheduled for Thursday, September 10.The cost of fighting this fire to date stands at $5 million.
The fire started Wednesday, August 26 as a scheduled 91 acre “prescribed burn” which quickly jumped the fire line.
