Cox Criticizes Renewable Energy Bill
Sacramento, CA – District One State Senator Dave Cox is disappointed that Senate Bill 14 was approved in the final hours of the most recent legislative session.
SB 14 requires that at least 33 percent of California’s electricity usage come from renewable resources by the year 2020.
“The California Public Utilities Commission estimates a cost of $115 billion to build and update our infrastructure,” says Cox in his weekly Capitol Report. “These costs will certainly be passed onto everyone.”
Cox says that absent a renewed focus on expanding the state’s transmission system, meeting the 33 percent mandate is “simply impossible.”
