Sonora, Ca — Many of those who volunteer their time to make the Mother Lode a better place to live were recognized Friday at the sixth annual Volunteers Are The Heart of Tuolumne County Awards luncheon organized by Sierra Nonprofit Services.

The Extra Mile Award was given to Joan Castro, the Volunteer Champion Award to the Helping Hands Thrift Store in Groveland, the Never Too Young Award to 11-year-old Marissa Miller, the Community Excellence Award To Umpqua Bank, and the Lifetime Achievement Award to former Twain Harte Market owners Chuck and Willy Evans.

All of the winners were selected by a panel of judges that included Third District Supervisor Teri Murrision, County Health Officer Dr. Todd Stolp and Sierra Nonprofit Board Member Nancy Sunday.

All awardees received a plaque and a check which is to be donated to their favorite non-profit charity.
