Avery Resident Killed In Single Vehicle Accident

San Andreas, CA — 52 year old William Wells of Avery was killed in a single vehicle accident at approximately 8:30 Sunday evening in Alpine County.

Wells was returning home from a reported retirement party at Alpine Lake Resort on Hwy 4 in a 1981 Pontiac Firebird when he drifted off the right side of the roadway. The vehicle struck multiple trees and overturned down an embankement 10-12 feet below road level.

Wells was not wearing a seat belt and was ejected. Alcohol may have been a contributing factor.

The overturned vehicle was first observed by a bicyclist at eight o´clock this morning.

This marks the ninth traffic related fatality of the year for the San Andreas based CHP office even though it occured in Alpine County.
