Local Businessman Assaults Angels Camp Police Officer
Angels Camp, CA — Local businessman Richard Wilmshurst was arrested yesterday for assaulting a police officer during the Frog Jump Youth Parade.
The 70-year old has been previously in and out of court on weapons charges. He is the owner of Forty Niner Subaru in downtown Angels Camp.
Angels Camp Police Chief Tony Tacheira says Wilsmhurst was attempting to drive his car down the closed Main Street Thursday morning.
An officer told Wilmshurst that he could not enter so Wilmshurst drove his car towards the officer, who had to jump out of the way to avoid being hit.
Later, when officers were trying to cite him, Wilmshurst took out his cell phone to call the Police Chief and swung at Officer Chris Comfort cutting the officer´s hand.
He was arrested for obstructing or resisting a police officer, assault, and failure to comply with a police officer directing traffic.
Wilmshurst was booked into Calaveras County Jail but soon posted the $115,000 bail.
