Calaveras Weed Awareness Week
San Andreas, CA — Weed Awareness Week might not sound like a very exciting event here in the Mother Lode but it´s a subject that relates to nearly all rural residents.
An invasive weed can take over pristine grassland turning it into a sticker filled environment that makes an evening stroll painful. Not only that, weeds can choke out native plants and increase wildfire danger.
In observation of Weed Awareness Week, July 16 through July 22, the Calaveras County Department of Agriculture is boosting education efforts to let residents know just what is growing in their backyards.
The department says many weeds are dispersed by human activity and can be prevented.
For more information visit the Ag Department´s website or call (209) 754-6504.
The county has also put up a display of some well-known Calaveras County invasive weeds in the Agriculture Department at the county Government Center in San Andreas.
