It’s Official; Mother Lode Fair Dates Changed
Sonora, CA — According to Mother Lode Fair Board Member Toni Wagner, dates for the 2008 Fair are set for Thursday through Sunday, June 26-29.
Traditionally the Mother Lode Fair set its dates in the middle of July but discussions about a possible change have been ongoing.
Wagner adds that the Board of Directors wanted to change the dates because the Helms and Son Carnival would not have been available for the traditional mid-July dates next year.
In addition the Board is hopeful the weather will be a bit cooler in June than July although the final week of June this year has, so far, been the hottest week of 2007.
Wagner added that many people, due to the Fourth of July weekend and planned vacations, failed to get their entries in on time this year. Overall entries were down by approximately 300.
Fair Manager Jan Haydn-Myer says there has virtually been no opposition to the new dates. As for changes for the coming year, Haydn-Myer says the Fair will make use of more local entertainment. In addition she states the Board is studying the possibility of scheduling two night of motocross competition in the arena.
