Sponsored by:

Columbia, CA — At approximately 2:20 Wednesday afternoon, a blue and white, single engine Piper 2000 crashed at the Columbia Airport.

The rental plane apparently caught a gust of wind as it was touching down, skidded across a grass field, a taxiway and then proceeded over the top of a ditch before coming to rest next to Hangar J at the south end of the airport.

Both the occupants, 61 year old pilot Peter John Spencer from Suffolk, England and his passenger, 62 year old Keith Patrick Jillings from Essex, England were uninjured.

The F.A.A. and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the incident.
