Lung Cancer Takes Life of Local Actress

Sonora, CA– Bette Laws-LeFevre, a professional actress since 1966, passed away on Thursday following a long battle with lung cancer.

She came to Tuolumne County in 1982 from San Diego where she was the musical trainer for the Shakespeare Company and a vocal coach for touring companies that came through the San Diego Theatre.

Here she continued acting in local theaters around the Mother Lode including Sierra Repertory Theatre and Stage Three Theatre Company. She has done over thirty shows in the area. Her roles included heavy drama, and slapstick comedy.

Among her many accomplishments, she was the recipient of the John Ellsworth Award at the Old Globe theatre for continuous character portrayals. She was the wife to Rex Lefevre, better known as Doc Wisdom on the Buyers and Sellers Show. Her funeral date has yet to be announced.
