The California Senate has joined the state Assembly in urging North Carolina Representative Howard Coble to resign as chairman of a House subcommittee because of his comments justifying the internment of Japanese-Americans during World War Two.
Coble heads the House Subcommittee on Crime, Terrorism and Homeland Security.
During a February 4th radio show, he said the internment was for the Japanese-Americans own protection. He also said that some Japanese-Americans probably were intent on doing harm to us, just as some of these Arab Americans are probably intent on doing harm to us.
The California Assembly voted 70 to nothing last month to approve a resolution condemning the comments. The state Senate approved the same resolution today by a 31 to zero vote.
