Earthquakes are rattling nerves and shaking a large area in the eastern-central Sierra.

The quakes over the past few days have done little damage, but the temblors are being noticed by residents. The quakes are centered about 30 miles northeast of Mammoth and 24 miles east of Lee Vining near the California-Nevada border.

The strongest of the earthquakes hit Saturday afternoon with a magnitude 5.5 As of Sunday morning, more than 200 quakes have rumbled through the Sierra region.

The shaking was fairly pronounced in Tuolumne and Mariposa Counties. The quakes have been felt even here in Sonora. An employee at the U.S. Forest Service Stanislaus National Forest offices in Sonora reported feeling another quake just before 10 this morning.
