Nevada´s wild horses are feeling the heat.

This summer´s drought is killing the vegetation that feeds wild horses and burros in desert areas surrounding Las Vegas.

That´s why public lands managers have announced an emergency plan to move some three hundred of the animals to Ridgecrest, California.

It´s so bad that the health of many of the horses is rated only slightly better than an animal near death.

Dry conditions this year have moved up the July start date. Helicopter crews will begin the round up Thursday.

The horses and burros will be taken to the National Wild Horse and Burro Center in California where they´ll receive veterinary care. Individuals nationwide will be invited to adopt the animals. Those deemed “unadoptable” will be sent to a long-term care facility in Oklahoma.
