Highway Will Remain Closed Near Cannon Fire

Highway 395 apparently will not be re-opened today. Highway Patrol officers say a flare-up of the Cannon fire at about 5 this morning will delay the opening, which had been slated for 7:00 a.m. Escorts may be provided through the area later today. Motorists have been forced to detour around a section of the Highway through the Walker River canyon, about 30 miles east of Yosemite National Park. The 24,000-acre blaze is 75% contained. The cost of fighting it is estimated at five million dollars.
