C.H.P. Rank And File Consider New Contract

Sponsored by:

Sacramento, CA — The union representing 6,400 Highway Patrol officers is agreeing to a new four-year contract that will cost the state more than $30 million dollars a year.

The officers will receive no increases to their base salaries this year, but they will see raises in future years as local police salaries increase. C.H.P. officers now earn base salaries of $60,000 to $73,000 not including overtime, seniority pay, fitness pay or education incentives.

The new contract increases uniform allowance, pays officers for off-the-clock activities such as inspecting weapons and vehicles and gives pay incentives for working night shifts.

The agreement must be approved by the state Legislature and union members.
