Sonora, CA — It’s been lights, camera, action all over the Mother Lode as a new movie is being filmed, and the producer describes the area as a “hidden gem.”
This week, filming took place at the popular Sonora watering hole, the Thirsty Prospector on Theal Street, off Washington Street. That is where we caught up with some of the stars and the film’s producer, Karyn Yarris. It is just one of the backdrops for the romance drama movie “I’ve Got You” being shot in Tuolumne and Calaveras counties.
“The first weekend that they [actors and film crew] were in town, they all went to Big Trees, which was really, really fun,” recounts Yarris. “We’ve been filming all over the area, from Hinter House up in Arnold and, of course, here at the Thirsty Prospector (Sonora); Murphy’s Park, we will be shooting there in a few days. We actually closed Scott Street in downtown Murphys and filmed there as well, so yeah, we’ve been all over the counties.”
The film follows two brothers who go back to their childhood vacation home in the Arnold area of Calaveras County. Along the way, they stop at the bar in Sonora, where one of them meets a woman, Madeline Popovich, currently starring in Murdaugh: Death in the Family (about the Murdaugh Murders) on Hulu, and a love story ensues. Yarris added that it is also about the two brothers and their relationship. The romantic lead is Aaron Dominguez, who plays Oscar Torres in Hulu’s “Only Murders in the Building” and recently starred in the 2025 horror film “Witchboard.” His brother is played by Nicolas Cirillo of Netflix’s “Outer Banks” fame.

Yarris praised both counties’ film commissions for being fantastic to work with and gave a special shout-out to Executive Director of the Calaveras Visitors Bureau and District 3 Supervisor Martin Huberty.
“Lovely, everyone’s been so welcoming and excited,” stated a smiling Yarris. “When we talked to Supervisor Martin Huberty originally about bringing the movie to this location, he was so excited about it and got behind it right away. My gosh, everyone just rolled out the red carpet; it’s been great.”
Filming ends this Saturday, October 11, 2025. Yarris remarked that director Josh Porter [August Falls (2017), Road to Red (2018), and When You Know (2020)] said that he’s never filmed anywhere more welcoming. Click here for Porter’s Facebook page to view daily videos of filming the movie. She added, “The actors love it too. You know, a lot of them came from Los Angeles, and some came from Atlanta. They just love it here because it’s like coming out here on vacation. It’s relaxing and beautiful, and the Gold Country is so unique and different.”
Post-production and editing will begin immediately, followed by a “rough cut” of the film at the start of next year, until the final product is complete. According to Yarris, the premiere will take place in Angels Camp sometime in April or May. The film will first be available for on-demand streaming, followed by normal streaming in September or October 2026. However, she stated that a streaming platform, such as Netflix, has yet to be named.
