Sonora Readies For Christmas Parade

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — Sonora´s 23rd Annual Christmas Parade is right around the corner.

Friday at 5:30 the parade will start at the Red Church and move in a southerly direction down Washington Street ending at Restano Way. The Sonora Police Department will initiate the diversion of traffic at five o´clock.

The city´s Special Projects Coordinator, Sheala Wilkinson, says there are 75 entries this year plus, of course, Santa Claus. Wilkinson adds that the increase from a year ago (65 entries in 2005) can be attributed to so many fire engines that will be in the parade.

Sgt. Glen Roberts of the Police Department says as many as 10-15,000 parade viewers are expected Friday evening. Roberts adds that people come from as far as San Francisco for the parade which will last about an hour.
