Angels Camp Residents To Vote On Tax Increase

Sponsored by:

Angels Camp, CA — The Angels Camp City Council has decided to put a ballot measure that would raise the city´s sales tax to 8% before the voters.

Council members approved putting the measure on a mail-in ballot August 30th by unanimous vote last night.

Proponents of the measure say the tax is needed to fund a Highway 49 bypass route that would connect Greenhorn Creek and Angels Oaks Drive to highway 49.

Residents who oppose the measure say the new route would bring more traffic to the neighborhood and bring down property values. However officials say the route is needed to handle growing traffic volume and to provide better emergency access.

Two thirds of the voters will have to approve the measure in order for it to pass.
