CDF Reports Another Possible Arson Fire
Sonora, CA — CDF is reporting that there were a few minor fires around the region over the weekend including another possible arson.
Craig Hart of CDF says a small fire burned a patch of grass on Sawmill Flat Road in the Columbia area at about 1:30 Saturday morning.
He says the area burned was confined to about an 8´ by 10´ space, but the origin was suspicious. Three CDF units extinguished the blaze.
Meanwhile, Hart says another fire that blackened two acres of grass on Chicken Ranch Road just after 7:30 Saturday night was caused by the catalytic converter on an automobile.
Hart says six engines and one water tender responded to the blaze along with two CDF crews, two inmate crews and a CDF helicopter. No injuries were reported but damage is estimated to be about $400.
Hart reminds residents not to park vehicles in tall, dry grass because hot exhaust runs a significant danger of ignition.
He adds that anyone with information regarding local arson activity is asked to call Chief Richard Imlach of the CDF at 532-0821.
