Beef Demand Stays Strong, Prices High

Demand for beef remains so strong that U.S. cattle marketers can´t keep up. Domestic demand has offset the loss of foreign markets, which closed after discovery of the cattle disease BSE in a single cow last December. A government report this week says beef prices continue to rise, as the summer cookout season approaches. Retail prices for choice beef averaged more than $4 a pound last month.
