Calaveras Crime Ahead of California Crime
Crime statistics in Calaveras County are outpacing the statewide crime numbers.
Figures released by the state Attorney General´s Office show violent crime is down 3.8 percent and property crimes are up 0.5 percent in Califor-nia´s most populous communi-ties and counties.
Locally, Calaveras County had 45 more violent crimes in the first half of 2004.
There was one homicide compared to none for that same time in 2003. Rapes dropped from nine to four, robbery dropped from five cases to three and assaults rose from 281 to 332.
Statewide, homicides were up 3.9 percent and forcible rape rose 2.5 percent but rob-beries decreased 5.9 percent and aggravated assaults were down 3.3 percent.
