Record Voter Registration Numbers for 2004

Secretary of State Kevin Shelley says a record 12 million California voters may go to the polls Tuesday.
If so, that would mean a 73 percent turnout for the presidential race.
Shelley is making the prediction after tallying a record 16.5 million voter registrations.
A 73 percent turnout would be one of the highest voting rates in 20 years — and three percent higher than the 2000 presidential contest.
Shelley says 1.5 million voters have registered since March.
