Elderly Hikers Rescued
A pair of elderly hikers who´d been stranded for more than a day in the mountains were rescued yesterday by six Marines and a Navy doctor who reached them on snowmobiles.
It was all thanks to Tuolumne County Search and Rescue.
64-year-old John Gregg and 70-year-old Gene Powell were cold but not injured.
The two were coming back from a five-day backpacking trip with a group of others.
But more than a foot of snow fell overnight and Gregg and Powell couldn´t keep going.
Other members of their group walked out and alerted authorities.
Rescuers from Tuolumne County and Mono County first arrived Monday night and the Marines and Navy doctor arrived yesterday afternoon.
The hikers were carried out on snowmobiles.
