Fred’s Fire Continues Growth Thursday
The Fred´s Fire has continued to grow since last report.
Mandatory evacuations are in effect in the Kyburz and Silver Fork area.
There is an evacuation center at Pollock Pines Community Center (530-647-8005).
The CDF and U.S. Forest Service say evening burnout operations went well, and protecting the the towns of Silver Fork and Kyburz are the priority.
Fire crews are dealing with extremely dry conditions with spotting a half-mile ahead of the main fire.
The fire is burning north of highway 50 in a westerly direction from north of the Eagle Rock Picnic area past Sugarloaf and north to the ridge above Granite Springs Road.
Highway 50 is closed at Pollock Pines (Sly Park exit) on the west end and Meyers on the east end.
The Fred´s Fire started at approximately 4:00 p.m. yesterday on the north side of Highway 50 several miles east of the town of Kyburz.
The cause is still under investigation. No approximate containment percentages have been released by officials.
