SLA Killer Pleads Guilty

One of the nation´s most wanted fugitives pleaded guilty to second degree murder today in Sacramento for a deadly 1975 bank heist by the Symbionese Liberation Army.

James Kilgore says he never meant to harm anyone when he entered a bank in the suburb of Carmichael with a handgun in April 1975. Another SLA member fatally shot Myrna Opsahl, a mother of four, who was depositing her church´s Sunday collection.

The 55-year-old Kilgore faces six years in prison when he is sentenced in August. Four co-defendants were sent to prison earlier this year. Kilgore was a fugitive until his arrest last year in South Africa where he was working as professor under a different name.

The SLA, a radical political group, gained notoriety for the 1974 kidnapping of newspaper heiress Patricia Hearst.
