Forest Review Gets Extension

The public comment period on the Interface Recreation Trails Draft Environmental Impact Statement has been extended another 14 days.

Stanislaus National Forest officials made the announcement Tuesday. Forest spokesman Jerry Snyder said the extension allows more time for the community to review the draft EIS.

He said the review is a result of complaints by area property owners. “One of the problems that has arisen there is the increased use of off-highway vehicles.”

Forest officials developed six alternative management plans for the 8,700-acre “Interface” area of the Calaveras Ranger District. They are looking for public comment before arriving at a final decision.

“The analysis is to determine how best to manage that portion of land in order to get the best use out of the land,” Snyder said.

The public comments period now ends May 19th.
