United Starts Cutting Jobs

Bankrupt United Airlines says it plans to lay off almost two-thousand workers this month.
United says about 1,500 salaried and management employees will be laid off by January 19th. Most of the layoffs will affect workers at the company´s headquarters in suburban Chicago.The airline also plans to close its remaining city ticket offices – including seven in Northern California. The company says all 32 ticket offices will be closed by the end of the month — leaving 188 employees without a job. United´s parent company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection December 9th.
