About 300 Want to be Governor
About 300 people so far have gone to county election offices to obtain nominating papers for election to be California governor. One of them could become governor in a little over two months.
By Saturday´s deadline, candidates must meet the easy conditions to be in the second part of the October 7 election. The first part is a vote on whether to remove or retain Governor Gray Davis.
There could be dozens of governor candidates because the road to the ballot has no bumps or curves. Candidates who must file by Saturday´s deadline need to submit only 65 nominating signatures and pay a $3,500 fee.
Anyone with 10,000 nominating signatures can avoid the filing fee altogether.
