ADA Lawsuits Target Tahoe Motels

Five motels at Lake Tahoe are being sued under the Americans With Disabilities Act by a wheelchair-bound woman with a lawyer who won a similar suit against actor Clint Eastwood´s Mission Ranch.

The owners of the five motels at the South Lake Tahoe are accused of being inaccessible to the disabled. They are scheduled to appear later this month before U.S. District Court Judge William Schubb in Sacramento.

The federal case was filed July 11th on behalf of the woman, Andi Millard, who tried to secure a room with one of the five lodging establishments located in the Stateline area. Her attorney, Paul Rein of Oakland, says she eventually got a room the day she sought one. But he told the Tahoe Daily Tribune he´s somewhat amazed to see so many places that don´t even have a ramp to get into their offices.

The motels named in the suit are the Driftwood Inn, the Cafe LaBaer Motel, the Thunderbird Motel, the Carriage House and the Travel Inn.

A lawyer representing the defendants declined comment.
