Tahoe Fire Has Burned 750 Acres
Firefighters are reported making good progress battling a wildfire on the California-Nevada border just southeast of Lake Tahoe. More than 600 firefighters are to be aided by air drops today at the 750 acre fire, which has been termed human-caused. It began near the Heavenly gondola used for skiers in the winter and sightseeing tourists in summer.
The 2,500 acre wildfire in the eastern Sierra Nevada northwest of Bishop was declared 100 percent contained last night. Residents of the communities of Swall Meadows and Toms Place returned home after a mandatory evacuation. All recreation areas in the Bishop area are open for the July Fourth holiday.
