Governor Orders Early Retirement Benefits

Governor Gray Davis has ordered state agencies to offer “golden handshake” benefits to encourage state workers to retire early. The program is part of a plan agreed upon by Davis and the state Legislature to help reduce a 23.6 billion dollar budget shortfall.
