Welcome Break In Storms Short-Lived
The Mother Lode had a chance to dig out this weekend as sunny skies help clear away lower elevation snow that fell last week. Thousands of holiday travelers finally have cleared highways to the Sierra slopes after the series of storms had required tire chains on the major trans-Sierra highways.
Sierra Nevada ski resorts are planning for a busy Christmas holiday week after a nine-day string of El Nino-driven storms dumped more than ten feet of snow. Dodge Ridge Ski Area is reporting a base of 50-to-70 inches of snow.
The break in the storms will be short lived, however. We should see increasing clouds this afternoon with rain back late Tuesday and snow down to 3000 feet. Rain and snow Christmas Day.
