Columbia College Hosts Occupational Olympics

Columbia, CA — Columbia College will host nearly 200 high school students for the 14th Annual Occupational Olympics held at the college. The contests and award ceremony will be held this Thursday, March 6th, between 9:00am and 1:30pm.

Students from Tuolumne and Calaveras Counties will compete in eleven different events that allow them to think critically in a contextual environment. The events include automotive, child development, computer business applications, cosmetology, digital photography, drafting, entrepreneurship, fire technology, food services, health occupations, forestry and natural resources, and welding.

Chris Vitelli, the Dean of Vocational Education and Economic Development at Columbia College, says “Over the years it has just grown larger and larger each year. We have more competitions and more students that are participating.”

Students from Sonora High School, Summerville High School, Don Pedro High School, Calaveras High School, and Bret Harte High School are competing. The Superintendents from each of the participating high schools and the Columbia College President, Dr. Angela Fairchilds will be presenting the awards.
