Tulloch Levels Still Looking Good For Labor Day
Copperopolis, CA — Lake Tulloch residents, businesses and recreation buffs will, no doubt, be cheered by the news that lake levels should hold through Labor Day.
This latest word, shared Monday, is due to this past weekend’s relatively cooler temperatures and a similar, cooler weather trend projected through the holiday weekend, according to Steve Knell, Oakdale Irrigation District (OID) general manager. OID is one of the Tri-Dam Project partners that are responsible for maintenance and operations at the reservoir.
“The low level outlet at New Melones was opened Thursday evening,” Knell reports. Subsequently, “With the cooler evening and daytime temperatures over the weekend, it has made a modest change in rising water temperatures downstream of Tulloch,” he states.
Considering this week’s projected ambient temperatures and the partners’ continued ability to tap Melones’ limited cooler water at the low level outlet for the blend it sends downstream for fish relief, the prospect is currently looking good for leaving Tulloch’s cold pool untapped for the next several days.
Last week, as previously reported, the Tri-Dam Project partners were cautiously optimistic; they maintain that plans are subject to change along with conditions.
