Butte Fire Officials Send Final Deadline Alert

Sponsored by:

San Andreas, CA — Butte Fire Recovery officials say that Friday is the final deadline date for survivors of the wildfire to sign up for debris removal program assistance.

According to Calaveras County government spokesperson Sharon Torrence, anyone with property impacted by the wildfire disaster who has not yet registered for the program is urged to notify the environmental management department or Butte Fire recovery information line (numbers below). Self-certification details are still available by clicking here.

As previously reported, current metrics for this week indicate that 85 percent or 733 of the participating properties have completed the debris removal program; soil samples have been approved for 498 properties; erosion control finished for 435. Ahead of the next rains, 29 crews are working within the burn scar on a seven-day work week with final completion still targeted for mid-March.

Forecasters are calling for more precipitation over the next several days, heavy at times through this weekend, bringing the potential for debris flows within the burn area. The county is still making sand and gravel bags available for erosion control. For locations, click here. Motorists using roadways within the burn perimeter along Jesus Maria Creek and the Calaveras River, particularly from Whiskey Slide to Highway 26, should be alert for possible flooding, rock and debris flow issues.
