CAL Fire: $16-Million Towards Fire Prevention And Tree Mortality Projects

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — As tree mortality increases across the Sierra Nevada, CAL Fire announces that will fund $16-million in additional projects.

Applications from fire safe councils, local fire departments and other groups can be submitted through September 28. CAL Fire statewide spokesperson Daniel Berlant says, “This is above what the department (CAL Fire) is doing across the region to help with the fire risk. Our crews are out there doing several fire breaks and fuel breaks, and we are hoping these other projects will augment those, and give us even more reduced fire risk throughout the area.”

$10 million will go towards projects specifically within CAL Fire’s State Responsibility Area (SRA), and $6-million for projects not limited to the SRA. In hopes of funding a wide array of efforts, the funding will be capped at $200,000 per project.
