Close Calls And A Big Win

Sonora, CA — The Wildcats continued their undefeated season rolling with a big win on a rainy night, 49-6 over the Linden Lions.

Sonora started off the game by forcing Linden to go three and out on the first possession. When the wildcats got the ball the team stormed down the field and Jack Camara punched through the line for a 20 yard touchdown run. Sonora’s Kane Rodgers had a 57 yard race to the end zone where he slashed through the defense like he was playing in completely dry conditions. By the middle of the first quarter, both teams were covered in mud from the natural turf at Lions Stadium. Wildcat’s Bradley Canepa bowled over Linden defenders on a 2 yard run and at the end of the first quarter the score was Wildcats 21, Linden 0.

The second quarter Sonora continued on the ground while doing a good job of holding on to the wet football. Jack Camara devoted his second touchdown of the night in a short 1 yard rush and Josh Harris called his own number for an 8 yard touchdown run putting the Wildcats up 35-0 at halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, it was all Wildcats. Mason Dambacher had a 30 yard touchdown run and Josh Harris punched in his second touchdown of the night on an 18 yard run. Kane Rodgers had an interception in the third quarter for Sonora.
The clock starting running shortly in the 3rd quarter because of the score and it appeared all of the Wildcat players got in on the “Mud Bowl” and got those away white uniforms covered in mud.

Sonora has a bye next week, but returns to Dunlavy Field on October 28 against Argonaut.

Summerville welcomed the visiting Argonaut mustangs, to its soggy home turf Friday night. The Summerville Bears seemingly played two types of football. One version was the same as when they got beaten by Sonora and the other was when the team shined against Hughson. The Bears trailed 23-0 at halftime before a Dominic Esquivel kickoff return helped give Summerville some momentum, which carried all the way to a blocked field goal that was scooped and scored by Alex Prevost. Never the less, the Bears still trailed by the score of 21-23 and could not convert a tough 4th and 11 to help move the ball down field for a possible game winning field goal.

The Bears fall to the Mustangs 23-21. Summerville is now 4-3 and will play the Bret Harte Bull Frogs on homecoming night Friday.

Bret Harte hit the gridiron against Amador. It was a close game an Amador Came out on top 8 to 6.

Calaveras had a bye week and plays Amador next Friday on its home turf.
