California Remembers Those Impacted By Wildfires

Sacramento, CA — Governor Jerry Brown over the weekend formally declared a Day of Remembrance regarding the Northern California Wildfires.
Flags were flown at half-staff in recognition of both the survivors and those that lost their lives. The fires started to ignite on October 8 and the high winds unfortunately helped scorch 200,000 acres. At least 42 people lost their lives, the youngest being 14 and the oldest 100. Thousands of homes were destroyed by the fires. They are considered the most destructive series of fires in the state’s history. In 1933 a wildfire at Griffith Park in Los Angeles killed 29 people and the 1991 Oakland Hills Fire killed 25.
