Angels Camp City Council To Re-address Cannabis Urgency Ordinance
Angels Camp, CA — Monday the City of Angels Camp City Council returns to the Bret Harte High School Theater for more discussion ahead of a possible vote to extend an urgency ordinance it recently enacted in an attempt to get some local rules in place before state laws kick in next month.
The restrictive ordinance, which unanimously passed after some finagling at the council’s Nov. 13 meeting before a strong pro-ban audience, requires a at least a four-fifths majority vote to remain in effect.
It bans all outdoor cultivation within city limits; retail marijuana dispensaries, manufacturing, distribution, and testing lab facilities. Adults 21 and over, as allowed under state law, may cultivate up to six marijuana plants indoors for their own personal use with certain safety and restrictions to ensure that the activities do not create a nuisance for neighbors. The urgency ordinance also allows for deliveries from out-of-town dispensaries within city limits under conditions that include requiring registering with Angels Camp Police Department and submitting to a background check.
If extended at Monday’s meeting, the urgency ordinance may be extended only once more, bringing the total time that it might cover to two years from the original date that it was enacted.
The meeting opens to the public at 6 p.m. following a 5 o’clock closed session where the council is expected to discuss possible candidates to permanently fill the open City Administrator slot being attended to in the interim by Mary Kelly, who is also the City Clerk.
