Peak Fire Near Full Containment In Stanislaus National Forest
Pinecrest, CA — The Peak Fire, which started on October 2 in Stanislaus National Forest, has burned 316 acres and is now 95% contained, officials reported Monday. No injuries have been reported, and 103 personnel remain on the scene, led by Incident Commander Justin Franklin and trainee Ryan Hinojoza.
Fire resources include four engines, two water tenders, three hand crews, and a Type 2 helicopter. Crews continue to mop up hot spots and conduct suppression repair work on dozer lines, with efforts focusing on preventing flare-ups caused by afternoon winds that threaten unburned fuel on the ridge tops. A Forest Order, effective October 11, has restricted access to the Herring Creek and Hammill Canyon Loop areas due to active fire and hazardous conditions, including standing trees near roads and trails. The closure will remain in effect until December 5, or until conditions improve.
Weather conditions are expected to remain dry and mild through early this week, with cooler temperatures and a chance of light rain forecast by midweek. Breezy winds could elevate fire concerns later in the week. Fire restrictions remain in place under Forest Order No. STF-16-2024-11, limiting access to Stanislaus National Forest lands, roads, and trails to ensure public safety and support firefighting efforts.
