Artists Wanted In The Forest

Sponsored by:

Sonora, CA — The Stanislaus National Forest is offering up a two week stay in the forest to artists in exchange for a piece of their work. The forest is taking applications for the 2013 Artist in the Woods program. Professional artists can apply for a two week stay in a historic cabin in the Summit Ranger District in either September or October. All the artists have to do is donate an original piece of forest artwork and teach a public workshop during their stay.

Forest Spokesperson Marie Malo says, “It doesn’t have to be painting or photography. It can be other types of media as well. For instance, if they are a performance artists, they can donate a live performance to the public during their stay. It could even be a song that gets donated and then we can use that song in our conservation efforts for example.”

Only one artist will be selected for each two week stay. Also money will be provided from 3 Forests Interpretive Association for meals, travel and supplies.

Last year Landscape Photographer, Joshua Cripps and Watercolorist and Engraver Dianne Stearns were selected as the Artists in the Woods.
