Lawsuit Filed Against Columbia Project

Sponsored by:

Columbia, CA — A lawsuit has been filed against a proposed Columbia apartment complex.

Back on May 7th the Tuolumne County Board of Supervisors approved the 80 unit project to be situated on 5.3 acres along Union Hill Road and Parrotts Ferry Road. The group Citizens for Responsible Growth has filed a 19 page lawsuit arguing that the county should have required a full Environmental Impact Report under CEQA law. In addition, it questions whether the company Golden State Holdings is registered with the Secretary of State’s office to do business in California.

The project had the full support of the Board of Supervisors and passed with a 5-0 vote. The lawsuit will certainly slow down the project. Citizens for Responsible Growth was initially formed to challenge the City of Sonora Lowe’s project several years ago, and this is the first major lawsuit they have filed since that time. The Sonora based group was first formed by Lisa Vaughn, but is now led by Barbara Farkas.
