Parents: Frightening Stats About Your Teens Driving
Sacramento, CA — We all know cell phones and driving don’t mix, but some new state figures are a bit scary.
In 2011, the California Office of Traffic Safety says the CHP issued over 57 thousand tickets for using cell phones while driving in the month of April. That number is up by about 5 thousand from the year before.
The OTS says most troubling is the figures for drivers 16-25, their numbers jumped by 9% last year.
In addition to citations, the OTS is pushing the “It’s Not Worth It” campaign for a second year. It uses ad campaigns and lighted signs on roadways to bring attention to the dangers of calling or texting while driving.
